There are five days each year that Live Homework Help® is closed-- Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, Easter and Independence Day holiday. Students who will login to Live Homework Help during those days will receive a message that the program is currently closed.

PROGRAMS    

Storytimes

Storytime programs are held three times a week from October through May. The Tuesday half-hour storytime for children 2 ½ to 3 years of age includes stories, songs & fun finger-play and concludes with circle games. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Wednesday and Thursday half-hour programs for children 3 to 5 years old cover theme stories with games, songs & a related craft project.

All storytime programs are free of charge but registration is required. Call 978.356.6648 to register.

Thematic readings – 8 weeks
Reading and fun incentives for pre-school through middle school children
Book Clubs 

Book Buddies – A book group designed for third-graders who love to read! The focus is on reading age-appropriate books and learning about what kinds of techniques writers use to make a book interesting. Meets the third Thursday of each month, September through May.

 

Radical Readers – A book group for fourth and fifth graders who enjoy reading and socializing with other children who share in this pleasure. Each section meets every other Monday during the school year. Members read books from a variety of genres and focus in their discussions on character and plot development.

 
 

The Sixth Grade Book Club – A book group for sixth graders.  Meets one Friday a month from  5 to 6 PM during the school year. Book discuss-ions are more student-initiated. While the main focus is still fun and friendship around books, readers will be working toward more authentic literature discussions.

  Webpage at www.town.ipswich.ma.us/library offers current information on programs and special events. It’s also a gateway to reference databases such as Kids Search® and Searchasaurus® as well as notable websites for kids.  Recommended Books Lists and Summer Reading Lists are also available on the webpage.
  Calendar of monthly activities is available in-print and online. Special events are advertised in the local newspapers.
  Seasonal displays & decorations stimulate creative thinking and artistic skills.
Onsite Resources  such as toys, puzzles, games, CD player with headphones, and comfortable chairs ideal for parents reading to their children.
Museum Passes
The Friends of the Library sponsor museum passes of interest to families.  Reservations for these passes are taken at the Main Desk or by phone at 978 356 6648.

  CHILDREN'S BOOK AWARDS
The Boston Globe–Horn Book Award for excellence in literature for children and young adults are among the most prestigious honors in the field.
  The  Caldecott Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. 

The  Coretta Scott King Award is presented annually by the Coretta Scott King Task Force of the American Library Association's Social Responsibilities Round Table. Recipients are authors and illustrators of African descent whose distinguished books promote an understanding and appreciation of the "American Dream."

  The  Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children,a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
  Notable Children's Books ...

--books of especially commendable quality, books that exhibit venturesome creativity, and books of fiction, information, poetry and pictures for all age levels (birth through age 14) that reflect and encourage children's interests in exemplary ways.
