Assessor
Board of Assessors
|
The Board of Assessors meets every Monday evening from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. and is responsible for the valuation of all real estate and personal property in Ipswich. The Board hears all appeals filed on real estate and personal property and administers all Motor Vehicle and Boat Excise Tax bills. All abatements for Motor Vehicle and Boat Excise Tax are processed through the Board of Assessors. Statutory exemptions which include senior citizens, veterans, widows and widowers, and individuals classified as legally blind are also processed through the Board.
The Fiscal Year 2013 tax rate for Ipswich was approved by the Department of Revenue at $13.30 per thousand, an increase of $.53 per thousand. The values that appear on the Patriot Properties web page are for Fiscal Year 2013. The Board analyzes all qualified sales and makes annual interim adjustments to keep our assessed values as close to market as possible. Since we have to use 2011 calendar sales for Fiscal Year 2013, we are always lagging behind the market. The Board also keeps property ownership updated from deeds recorded at the Essex Registry of Deeds in Salem, Massachusetts. Tax maps are also updated from plans recorded at the Registry of Deeds.
Since July 2004, property values have been available for viewing on-line directly through ipswich.patriotproperties.com, or indirectly through the Town’s web site, www.ipswichma.gov, through the property assessment data link.
Helpful Hint: If you encounter difficulty when searching by street name in Patriot Properties, try entering just the first few letters of the street instead of the whole street name and do not include street number.
