Library Director - Ipswich Public Library

The Town of Ipswich seeks full-time Library Director.  The Director is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the operations and activities of the public library. Director works with Library Board of Trustees on goal setting, strategic planning and development and community programming. Must possess excellent planning & organization skills and have a broad interest in learning, literature, sciences, social sciences, and organization and retrieval of electronic data. Must have the ability to establish goals & objectives for the department and have excellent verbal and writing communication skills. The ideal candidate should have a Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school; five years of experience in library administration with specific experience in library automation system & electronic data retrieval; or any equivalent combination of education & experience; ability to comprehend, interpret & apply personnel laws, collective bargaining agreement & practices and to foster & promote employee relations & employee development required. Wastewater Plant Operations Mechanic

Town of Ipswich seeks qualified candidates for full-time) union position of Wastewater Plant Operations Mechanic. Skilled work in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant, pump stations and collection system on an assigned shift. Work involves computerized maintenance tracking, preventative, and corrective maintenance for the operation of pumps, compressors, chemical feed mixers, & other appurtenances at the wastewater treatment plant and all pump stations to maintain compliance with all applicable local, state & federal laws. Candidates must possess a minimum of a Grade 4C (Grade 5C Preferred) Commonwealth of Massachusetts Wastewater Operators Certification equivalent and have at least 2 years of operation and analytical experience at a similarly rated plant.  Candidates should also have valid driver’s license, ability to obtain a CDL Class “B” w/ hydraulic endorsement within 1 year of employment, High School Diploma or equivalent trade school certificate, supplemented by successful completion of specialized training courses in wastewater treatment operations.  Complete job description is available by clicking on the following link [PDF] Wastewater Operations Mechanic JD-Feb2014.  Hourly position (7:00 am to 3:30 pm, M-F, weekends/holidays/emergency response/on-call on a rotating basis) starting at $25.49/hour - $28.25/hour DOE.

Senior Planner – Department of Planning & Development

The Town of Ipswich seeks full-time Senior Planner to lead planning function for progressive eight-person Planning & Development Department. Position performs advanced professional work on a variety of land use/planning issues. Responsibilities include preparing and coordinating complex planning studies, reviewing development applications, providing staff assistance to Planning Board and Historical Commission, and project management. Senior Planner should be a self-directed individual who has initiative and uses considerable independent judgment in decision-making. Position supervises summer intern and part-time planning assistant, and reports directly to the Director of Planning & Development. Candidates should have a minimum of four years of relevant planning experience plus master’s in planning/related field; strong communication (written & oral), organizational and interpersonal skills; knowledge of principles and practices of planning profession, including familiarity with state zoning and subdivision statutes;strong computer skills, including ability to use GIS technology and ESRI ArcMap; and ability to manage multiple projects and tasks.
