Information Technology

Information Technology is responsible for all computer hardware & software resources in use at Town Hall and other remote sites. We provide computing resources, innovation, and support necessary to be more efficient.

The role of Information Technology is to:

1. Support all General Government departments in using technology to improve productivity
2. Streamline the collection, flow and retrieval of information
3. Provide training and technical support to Town offices

This office also supports the School and Utilities departmental administration of the Town’s Financial Management Applications (MUNIS) and by maintaining the Town-wide network.

Additionally, GIS (Geographic Information System) responsibilities include: relicensing, desktop applications, and future online web tools.

This department also provides limited support of IP telephony.

OpenSource software is applied whenever possible. Sucessful projects include; Zimbra Collaboration Suite (Email), Joomla CMS (Website), and phpScheduleIt! (Resource Shceduler).

Current cost and time saving projects include; moving our IT infrastructure towards virtualization and leveraging on cloud services.

Mobile computing has become an integral and important long-term cost and time saving technology. We will focus on increased use and functionality in this area.
