Ipswich Wayfinding Initiative Final Report
Wayfinding Signs Coming to Ipswich
For many years the Town has discussed the need for an attractive and effective sign system to welcome visitors and direct them to places of interest (often referred to as wayfinding signs). Last year the Town was awarded a $10,000 State grant to hire a consultant to create a design concept and hierarchy of wayfinding signs, in conjunction with a Wayfinding Task Force appointed by the Town Manager. The selected consultant, Mark Favermann of Favermann Design, was tasked with creating concepts that: (1) are welcoming, informative, concise, and functional; (2) embody a consistent graphic vocabulary unique to Ipswich; (3) are comprised of colors, logos, and typefaces that allow visitors to quickly identify and read signs relevant to their specific needs; and (4) are easily distinguishable from traffic-related signs.
